SFPD ALERT: Preparation for upcoming Chauvin trial verdict

Possibility of spontaneous peaceful demonstrations and civil unrest proceeding Derek Chauvin trial

April 15, 2021

The San Francisco Police Department and Northern Station are preparing for the upcoming verdict in the Derek Chauvin trial. We are planning to facilitate peaceful demonstrations and 1st Amendment activities, but we all need to prepare for the possibility of any civil unrest. Please consider the below in keeping your property and business safe.

Consider boarding up your shop windows.

Keep items away from windows. Secure valuable items and do not leave any money

or portable electronic devices on the premise.

Have a phone chain/thread with other merchants and your fellow employees so that you can quickly communicate with other businesses in your area (i.e. using a group messaging app or even a simple text message group chat).

If you feel unsafe at your place of business, please secure it and leave.

Ensure cameras, alarms, and any other security systems are working properly.

We strongly encourage you to have a plan in place in case of escalating civil unrest. Make sure that all employees understand the plan and that every person can properly carry out the plan.

Do not attempt to fight with anyone. Seek cover and/or find a safe place and call 9-1-1.

Be aware that parklets can potentially be damaged and/or pieces of the structure can be broken up to be used as weapons or tools to smash out storefront windows.

Make sure the contact information for your business is up to date in our Northern Station "responsible file". Please email your address, business name, person to contact, and updated contact information to sfpdnorthernstation@sfgov.org
