It was only a matter of time before the veterinary industry received a high-tech makeover. If you've passed the corner of Oak and Divis lately, you may have noticed that Modern Animal is bringing their app and membership-based model to pet medicine right here to our neighborhood with its first San Francisco hospital to be located on Divisadero.

The new Pet Hospital space will be located at Divis and Oak, access to the veterinary clinic will be based on an annual membership for around $100 which typically includes unlimited exams for cats and dogs. Pet parents can schedule appointments via Modern Animal's app, which also allows users to access 24/7 virtual care for their furry family members (via call, chat, or video) as well as view their pets' health records, pay invoices, and order prescriptions.

In addition to vaccines and medical checkups, the space will offer routine and advanced procedures that don't require overnight care, such as spaying and neutering, dental services, biopsies, mass removals, and more. For felines and canines that need more serious care, the clinic will refer pet parents to a specialist or emergency room.

Modern Pet's design asthetic feature bright and airy layouts with colorful decor and plenty of natural light. According to their website, transparency is top of mind for the chic clinics, which feature stylish reception spaces that have clear views of the treatment areas, wellness room, pharmacy, and lab.

The pet-focused startup recently raised $13.5 million in funding, per TechCrunch. It's led by founder Steven Eidelman (who was behind the GPS dog tracker Whistle) and Dr. Christie Long, DVM (she was previously Petco's former director of veterinary medicine).
