Alamo Scare! Provides Safe and Spooky Halloween For Neighborhood Families

First partnership between ASNA and NOPNA for neighborhood kids

The calm before the storm

For the first time, Alamo Square Neighborhood Association partnered with our friends at NOPNA to provide a safe and spooky Halloween event for neighborhood families.

Thank you to everyone who made the first Alamo Scare! a hit with neighborhood families. The kids enjoyed games, crafts, balloon animals, a glass of ghoul-ade, goodie bags, and a walk through our Haunted Forest.

Thank you to the event director ASNA Vice President, Cynthia Chapman for planning the event and coordinating with our NOPNA neighbors on logistics.

A Big Thank you to our amazing volunteer team:

Haunted Forest Setup: Lavonne Hickerson, David Goff, Grace Hu, Drew Gregory, Katie Miller, Melanie Vargas, Mairie MacDonald, Sarah Ruiz, Elisabeth Kvitashvili, J. Lee Stickles (and Louis), Jason Jervis, Stephanie & Randi.

Event Staff: Katherine Schinkel, Marcus Rosti, Yulin Hswen, Grace Hu, Drew Gregory, Katie Miller, Melanie Vargas, LaVonne Hickerson, John Alex Lowell, Hazel B., Piper D., John Dallas, and Jason Jervis

Alamo Scare! vastly exceeded our expectations in crowd size, joy, and appreciation. We've never seen a happier group of neighbors and friends enjoying a beautiful evening in the park.

It appears that Alamo Scare! is now "a thing" and we look forward to working with NOPNA again next year to provide wholesome Halloween entertainment.

A message to Alamo Scare! attendees from our amazing Balloon Animal Artist:

"Dear friends and family of Alamo Square. I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to make 194 Balloon Animals that ranged from bunnies to spiders to swords galore. Your patience and sheer joy were greatly appreciated and I could not have asked for more wonderful "clientele" who were so polite and grateful for their balloon animals. Thank you for the most wonderful experience! "

Your friendly neighborhood Balloon Animal Keeper,

Dr. Yulin Hswen.
