South Side Planting In Alamo Square

What's going on and when will it be completed?

· Park Preservation,Alamo Square Park

Some of you may have noticed that over the last couple months SF Rec and Park has been replacing some turf and planting new plants along the south side of Alamo Square along Hayes Street.

The effort is part of ongoing maintenance and adjustment to the unique conditions that are inherrent around Alamo Square. Rec and Parks installed new turf to replace the turf that was dying along the south side of the park. So far, the new turf seems to be taking and will provide dogs and humans with beautiful greens to play and picnic on.

Rec and Parks is also in the process of replacing plants around the Hayes and Pierce street entrance to the park. The gardeners have run into a challenge in completing the new plant installation: water restrictions due to the drought.

Water restrictions and getting new plants to take don't pair well together so our friends at Rec and Park have opted for a phased approach to installing the new plants. The current phase of installation should be completed by July 18th with the remainder of the new plants to be installed sometime in mid to late fall.

We'll keep you updated as soon as we get more information on the progress of the new plant installation project.
